You failed to mention the main enablers of this crisis, i.e., Franks, Dodd, and Shumer along with Clinton. You failed to mention that the Bush administration went before congress in 2003 and again in 2005 to warn of the upcoming crisis. Secy of Treasury Snow was dressed down by B. Frank and other dems for his indiscreet language that was apt to freightening the markets. Frank assured us that Fannie and Freddie were more than sound. Meanwhile, the dems threatened banks with punishment if they didn't make the unqualified loans. All documented with quotes on Fox.

You must be democrat. This is the part of the story NOT getting enough media focus. This should serve as a lesson as to what happens when government gets too involved ( as it most surely will now ).

Thanks. Had banking standards not been drasticly lowered by the Clinton administration's strong-arm tactics, none of this sub-prime mess would have occured. As long as Democrats ignore the origins of the crisis, we will never be able to correct the systemic problems.

Interesting that Mr. Rirholtz neglected to mention what started all this, Bill Clinton’s decision to put Carter’s Community Reinvestment Act (I beleive was the title) on steroids. Always enjoy reading your in-depth, transparent and non-politized reports. You are one of maybe 2-3 people who continually bring sanity to this ongoing financial madness. Just imagine how bad it could get without people like you bringing some stabiling thoughts to the table.

Great report.
