Ljubljana marathon – mission accomplished!

I have been a little quiet on the blog over the past few days. And with good reason. It is with a sense of pride that I wish to share the news with you: I successfully completed the Ljubljana Marathon (42.2 km / 26.2 miles) on Sunday! Although it was quite cold (60C / 42.80F), it was an amazing experience, from the very professional organisation to the incredible crowd support to the camaraderie of the runners to the thrill of running in an old European city. (For those not up to speed with geography, Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia – a postcard-pretty country in the centre of Europe, bordered by Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia.)

As an aside, my television friend from Ljubljana, Igor Bergant, has just pointed out to me that I was the 12th best African participant in the marathon, beaten only by ten Kenyan and one Ethiopian athletes. Way to go!

There is no reason why this race needs to stand back for the big city marathons, and I would encourage runners to seriously consider including this event on their racing programs.
