A.W.O.L. – going home

awol

There will be no blog posting over the next few days as I make my way back from America to my home base in Cape Town. The normal blogging service will be resumed on December 6. Wish me well on one of the most arduous (read 18 hours flying time plus layovers) flying excursions around..

Ljubljana marathon – mission accomplished!

EmailPrint This Post Print This Post

I have been a little quiet on the blog over the past few days. And with good reason. It is with a sense of pride that I wish to share the news with you: I successfully completed the Ljubljana Marathon (42.2 km / 26.2 miles) on Sunday! Although it was quite cold (60C / 42.80F), it was an amazing experience, from the very professional organisation to the incredible crowd support to the camaraderie of the runners to the thrill of running in an old European city. (For those not up to speed with geography, Ljubljana is the capital of Slovenia – a postcard-pretty country in the centre of Europe, bordered by Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia.)

As an aside, my television friend from Ljubljana, Igor Bergant, has just pointed out to me that I was the 12th best African participant in the marathon, beaten only by ten Kenyan and one Ethiopian athletes. Way to go!

There is no reason why this race needs to stand back for the big city marathons, and I would encourage runners to seriously consider including this event on their racing programs.

Gone A.W.O.L. – lite blogging

EmailPrint This Post Print This Post

awolI will find myself in picture-pretty Slovenia over the next week, showing a group of South African tourists around the “Jewel of Central Europe”.

Blog posting will be slow (and totally absent on some days) while I am on the road. The normal blogging service will be resumed on my return to Cape Town by June 6. You have my guarantee on this, as blogging (and running) provide me with a can’t-do-without adrenalin boost.

Please do not unsubscribe as readers so often do when I travel and don’t post for a few days. This is just a temporary reallocation of my time and not the end of my blogging efforts!

For a taste of the environs in which I will find myself over the next few days, have a look at the pictures below. Stunning, aren’t they?

Gone A.W.O.L. – lite blogging

awolI will find myself in England, Switzerland and Slovenia over the next week, catching up on a few existing relationships and exploring a number of new ones.

Blog posting will be slow (and totally absent on some days) while I am on the road. The normal blogging service will be resumed on my return to Cape Town by March 7. You have my guarantee on this, as blogging (and running) provide me with a can’t-do-without adrenalin boost.

Please do not unsubscribe as readers so often do when I travel and don’t post for a few days. This is just a temporary reallocation of my time and not the end of my blogging efforts!

As an aside, the “airplane / airport barometer” has made an amazing recovery over the 18 months when the numbers of passengers were way down and upgrades were plentiful. Empty seats on any of the planes I have flown in over the past few days were hard to come by and airports were buzzing.

Drinks at the bar, in London

EmailPrint This Post Print This Post

I will be in London on a business trip in a few days’ time, from February 25 to 28.

If any Investment Postcards readers are interested in meeting to discuss global financial markets and money-making ideas, please contact me. I probably won’t be able to accommodate too many one-on-one meetings, but am keen to meet as many of you as possible. I have therefore decided to schedule an informal group function on Friday afternoon, February 25 at 16:30 in the West End.

If you are interested in joining me for a drink or two, and “putting a face to the name”, please get in touch through the “comments” or “contact” sections of the site so I can send you the details.

Down with flu

EmailPrint This Post Print This Post

I am down with a nasty bout of flu and will not be posting items today. This is what happens when one cools off in front of an air-conditioner after a run at 33oC (91.4oF). Falling ill in an attempt to get fit!

Hopefully the blogging service will be back to normal by tomorrow.
